There's a bathroom on the right

Real Lyric: There's a bad moon on the rise

    Media

    The story:

I was at a party and someone asked where the bathroom was.
Instead of just answering, I sang the words "there's a bathroom
on the right." Everyone burst out laughing, and it wasn't until
someone explained it to me that I realized I had been completely
    wrong for five years.

Classic misheard! It would be a good idea to call in on your local classic rock or such station, on April Fools' Day, and tell them you want to hear "There's a Bathroom on the Right" by CCR. Now that would be funny, imo!

I heard baboon instead of bathroom

I should sing that the next time someone asks me for directions to the bathroom and see how they react!

I heard this as I singing it in the car on the radio and my mom laughed when I got to that part and corrected me. It seemed to fit the song because the singer is like a narrator who tells of these horrible things that are happening and knows the audience is nervous and may need to know where the bathroom is.

John Fogerty actually sings it that way at the end of live versions.

I always think of "bathroom on the right" whenever I hear this song after hearing Bob Saget say it in an episode of "Full House" many MOONS ago!

John Fogerty actually sang this as a joke. You can bet there are people are saying "see i was right!

Saturday Night Live used this lyric in their "Misconceptions" spoof commercial for a music compilation cd, "the songs you thought you knew." Thanks to that, I've always sung it this way too.

Funny enough there is a parody of this song on Bobrivers.com called "Bathroom on the right" http://www.bobrivers.com/#v8470 so thats funny, it DOES sound like bathroom though!

Even though I know the correct lyrics, I still hear 'bathroom on the right.'

My Mother used to think that was the way the song went! My Dad made fun of her all the time! Hilarious!

my husband always sang it like that to be funny (and it was the first time b/c i had never heard it before) according to him it is a well established misquote. in 2008 we went to see john fogerty and he actually sang it that way one time and even pointed to the right!!! We both rolled!!!! The Revival tour...good concert-great seats.

It could also be misunderstood as "There's a baboon on the ride", as in a ride at an amusement park.

I guess you would be in for nasty weather if this guy is searching that bad for a bathroom.

Strangely enough, CCR did use "There's a bathroom on the right!" in one gig. I guess they needed a little joke.

    netters Dec 09, 2008 5:07 pm

my ex-stepdad used to sing it this way jokingly ( he knew the real words..lol) i thought he was serious so i always sang it that way until igot seriously laughed at for it was very confused why everyone thought it was so funny.... then it was explained to me...

    yeahme Nov 26, 2008 6:37 pm

I always thought it was "There's a bedroom on the right"

    SupaStar Nov 11, 2008 3:58 pm

Apparently, "Weird Al" Yankevic thought this was a keeper, too, since he recorded a parody of "Bad Moon Rising" to this effect!

    drruth82 Sep 25, 2008 12:58 pm

I think this is hilarious. It's my favourite.

    eandrews Sep 01, 2008 5:28 am
