I was sitting by the pool with a friend of mine and this song came on. She started singing with as "hot potatoes" and I asked her what the heck she was saying. She actually thought it was hot potatoes!

I heard it that way too. Since I was a little girl, I remember sitting in the backseat of the car when it'd come on the radio and sing "hot potatoes, hot potatoes, hot potatoes, hot potatoes, oh oh hot potatoes." My parents never corrected me and I think I was about 16 when I found out the real lyrics, but 7 years later I still sing "hot potatoes" lol
