The story:

My father and I were listening to this song on the radio in the car. He said, "What did he say there?" I said, "He said, 'A year has passed since I broke my nose.'" My father corrected me graciously, without belittling what I had said. He didn't think it was funny though. He said it makes more sense if the lyric is "A year has passed since I wrote my note" when you remember the title of the song.
