The story:

I was in college at the time and was having a very pompous, pseudo-intellectual conversation with a friend of mine. (You know the kind of conversation I mean--the type where you talk real loud so other people can overhear you and will all know how cerebral you are.) Anyway, we were discussing how Manson's lyrics are much more meaningful than many people give them credit for when I misquoted the above lyric. My friend was too polite (or sadistic) to point out my mistake until after I had self-importantly rambled on about how deep this particular line was for 3 or 4 minutes. Needless to say, I wanted to crawl into a hole and die after that.
