There wasn't really a particular moment. I knew I had to be wrong, because the song is about something from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion and thus has nothing to do with Democrats, Republicans, or modern American politics in general. I only realized what the correct version when a friend posted it in his Facebook status.
