"Through the pear of this night..."

The story:

This is actually not my mistake, but that of someone who sang the national anthem at a high school gymnastics meet. She had a beautiful voice and I was actually enjoying her singing until "Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the pear of this night...". Plain as day. I couldn't help but laugh at the ridicularity of it all... if you're going to perfect your voice to sing the national anthem in front of at least a hundred people, you'd think you would take time to learn the words, too!
