The story:

This was actually my friends mistake, she heard the remake on the radio for the first time while we were together on a trip. She looked at me and said, "What did they just say??" I looked at her and asked, "what do you THINK they said?" She looked at me and that part of the song was repeated. She finally asked, "did they just say 'pave paradise and put up an f'ing light?'" I looked at her and tried to control my laughter...I asked her, "Why would they sing about an f'ing light?" I then explained that they were saying 'put up a parking lot.' She said "oh I still think it says f'ing light" and I just smiled and the trip went on with my occasional laugh.
