The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
It was sometime around 1969. I was eleven years old and I went to the local record store to buy some forty-fives (that's what we bought back in those days.) I couldn't find the song on the list they had on the counter. I asked the clerk (who was also the store owner, I think) for "The Sky's in Love With You" by Herb Alpert. He said that was a funny name for a song, and that it wasn't listed, but he'd see what he had under Herb Alpert. Of course, I'd gotten what I'd thought was the title from what I thought was the line in the song: "The sky's in love with you" as some sort of sophisticated metaphor (not that I knew what a metaphor was at that age) for just how wonderful the woman described in the song must have been. So much for sophistication. I must not have been too embarassed, since I still bought the record after the clerk had set me straight on the title.
