'The Eve of the Performance shone in the lights"

The story:

First time I heard it was in 1983.
I was in a private high school in Atlanta, so we worked half days & class half days. Working in the school cafeteria, doing dishes, with two other guys and one girl. Radio was on, and the song came on. All of us working were in the school choir, and we had an upcoming choir trip to south Georgia. Bill starts singing along, and he nudges me to join in. Right on the chorus break, I jump in: "It's the eve of the performance, the Eve of the performance..." and then everyone's ROLLING with laughter!
