The Story: Don't eat the fruit in the garden, Eden,, It wasn't in God's natural plan., You were only a rib,, And look at what you did,, To Adam, the father of Man.
The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
The narrator clearly sees San Pedro as her idea of paradise,
so my version made sense to me, despite Itá being an
unusual name in both English and Spanish--she was telling
her friend (or possibly the bartender) that she would live full
time in San Pedro if she could.
When this song first came out, I thought it was called
"Spanish Lullaby". I learned the correct title of the song from
one of the Gavin Edwards mondegreen books published in
the 1990s, which features the mishearing of "San Pedro" as
"some bagels".
On a closer listen, it turns out that Madonna sings, "LA is-LA
bo-NI-i-TA", which puts the em-PHA-sis on the wrong syl-LA-
bles (it should be, "la IS-la bo-NI-ta").
