My Bff and her mom where in the car and this song came on and i started singing and then I said "are the words take a bite of my heart tonight?" and they started cracking up....i didnt realize that i had the words wrong all along.

You actually had it right. In each chorus, first they say "take a bite of", and the next time it's "say goodbye to".
