I wasn't the one who misheard it--my teenage daughter was. Just today, in fact. The radio was playing the song and she asked me, "Did he just say he 'stepped on a pot pie?'" I loved it, so I said, "Why, yes. Yes, he did." I couldn't let it go uncorrected, though, so I told her the real words.
