The story:

I first heard it and thought the song was too patriotic, like directly attacking the Soviet Union...after all, the song somehow deals with war, patriotism and worse, the name refers to the flag of the Navy, so I simply thought: "Metallica probably is talking about the Cold War". So I always told this to a friend who I inducted to listen to Metallica, and when I realized it, I told him and we could not do other thing...we laughed.
