Probably not until my early twenties when I thought about the song did I realize how wrong I was. I always thought he was singing about his mom doing his laundry...I never understood how that made sense with the rest of the song.
My Dad really loves this song, and he would play it at full volume and rev up the engine when I was about 5 or 6 and would go for a ride with him. I always used to sing along, and he would smile and laugh. He never corrected me.
