Why would the narrator read about Bennie's clothing choices in
a magazine? It's more likely he would have seen a photo of her
wearing that outfit. OTOH, if she had electric *boobs*--
especially if she were trying to conceal the fact--that would be
newsworthy.
I learned the truth from one of the Gavin Edwards mondegreen
books, which includes a different wrong version of this line.
