I have collected old 45s for years and played them a lot. In her early teens, this drove my daughter nuts (although not she's the reigning oldies expert in trivia competitions). We would both sing along, and when she heard my version of these lyrics, she couldn't stop laughing. I insisted I was right, claiming that they were artistically saying that Cherry was a good dancer, and she was also nice and slim. She set me straight, and even as I write this now I get a twinge of embarrassment realizing how stupid my version really was.
