    On your wages day,
    Sex sex sex sex sex

    Artist: Deacon Blue
    Song: Wages Day
Real Lyric: On your wages day,Say say say say say

    The story:

This was thanks to the now defunct Smash Hits
music magazine in the UK, which printed song
lyrics in each issue. In early-1989 they managed
a classic case of the mondegreens and misheard the
lyrics to Deacon Blue's Wages Day, resulting in
"On your wages day, say say say say say" becoming
"On your wages day, sex sex sex sex sex" I
remember reading it (I was 14 at the time) and
trying to stifle my laughter. The magazine ran an
apology to the band in the next issue, and printed
    the correct lyrics.

However, I have listened to Wages Day many times
in the years since, and can see how Smash Hits
slipped up. It does sound a bit like "sex sex sex
sex sex" and whenever I hear it I'm always
reminded of the Smash Hits misprint. We're only
    human, after all!
