This was a mistake a neighbor of mine made when this song was first a hit. She told me she didn't like American Pie because it was so violent. When I asked what she meant she said, "You, 'drove machete to the levee,' I don't want to hear a song about that!" When I got done laughing, I explain the actual lyric (although I have no idea what it means).
