I've always thought that this song had a historical context, Commodus being the ancient Roman emperor. I took a Roman history class this year and I'd leave every day with this song in my head when Commodus was mentioned. My roommate asked me about it one day and enlightened me to the real lyric, which was a bit of a let down and slightly embarrassing. I totally want sweet Commodus to love me, love me!
