    It wasn't until the car suddenly stopped, in the middle of a cold and barren plain;
    Then the awful sky turned and spilled
    Three boys' blood in the Noah-drivin' rain...

    Real Lyric: It wasn't until the car suddenly stopped, in the middle of a cold and barren plain;That the other guy turned and spilledThree boys' blood, did they know a trap had been lain?

    The story:

    No humour in this one. Just the beauty of words and the **sociations a song can put in your head. "Last Days of May" is about three guys crossing the Mexican border in a remote desert place, far away from any possible help, so as to buy drugs and smuggle them back into the USA. But something goes wrong and two of the three die.

    Trying to make sense of this, I thought of "it never rains in southern California" and the idea grew that as they cross the desert in an unreliable car, the heavens open in a rare desert storm, and they either drown or die of exposure - the line I heard for years in this chillingly beautiful song was "in the Noah-driving rain", and I thought that was a great, memorable, English line, abut the irony of drowning in a desert.

    It turns out that their Mexican guide betrays them and steals either the money or the drugs, killing two of the boys and leaving the third for dead. I prefer my version...

    Please don't rate this "funny". This is serious comment on how mishearing a song can sometimes be poetic and cause great English to happen - the mishearing is better lyric and poetry than the original!
