I'm not talking 'bout iridium

The story:

Iridium, a metal of the platinum family, is white but with a slight yellowish cast. Because iridium is very hard and brittle, it is hard to machine, form, or work. So naturally, England Dan & John Ford Coley would not willingly bring iridium up when trying to woo a girlfriend. Hence their attempt to change the subject in this loathesome 70's hit, which I could not escape at the time.
