The Story: Don't eat the fruit in the garden, Eden,, It wasn't in God's natural plan., You were only a rib,, And look at what you did,, To Adam, the father of Man.
The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
I had never been able to work out what
Sting was saying at the beginning of the
song, so the whole 'I don't drink coffee, I
drink tea, my dear' bit, which sets up the fact
that he's an Englishman, had totally passed
me by. The only bit I could decipher (or so I
thought) was the chorus, and so I always
presumed that the whole 'eagle, alien,
Indian' part was some kind of profound
statement on Native American rights.
One day I heard my brother singing the right
lyrics to the first verse and wondered aloud
why it didn't fit the rest of the song theme.
His reaction was outrage followed by
ridicule, which he maintains to this day any
time the subject comes up.
I still like my version best
