Actually it was my boyfriend who told me he heard the song this way. I guess he was around 11 or 12. Embarrassing cause it was the title.

I heard the song this way as well, albeit I was only six at the time and I had just seen E.T. on a VHS tape. The reason I bring up E.T. is due to the famous attempted frog dissecting scene. I had seen the movie, then heard "Mama Told Me Not To Come" later on. So I was thinking this song was a toad in a cup, especially with the lyrics being, "Open up the window, sucker, let me catch my breath" and "I'm lookin' at my girlfriend - she's passed out on the floor I seen so many things I ain't never seen before Don't know what it is - I don't wanna see no more". Of course, I was six with selective hearing and a wild imagination who had just seen the E.T. movie.
