The story:

I was listening to the song with my friends on holiday, humming along as I hadn't heard it properly before (I recogised the tune but I had never actively listened to the song), and as the chorus finished, I frowned, confused. Peppermint poison? Was there such a thing? I waited for the next time it was said, and heard the same thing. The third time, I asked one of my friends, "Is that 'peppermint poison'?"
She said, "Huh?" as any normal person would do confronted with those very random words. I told her what I was hearing, and asked if that was really what it said. She put the song back to the beginning, listened to it carefully, then started laughing. "No, it's 'venomous poison'!"
She proceeded to tell all my other friends my mistake, and it became an in-joke for the rest of the week.
