Not until I printed out the real lyrics in April of this year (2006) while I was meant to be studying human anatomy for an exam. Then, suddenly, uncovering mysterious lyrics of songs I'd been listening to for 20-odd years assumed immediate importance. My life is better for it. Even now knowing all the words, I can't get my mouth to move fast enough to actually sing along with Michael Stipe, but I do try. My teenage daughter often asks me not to try.
