I see a Renoir and I want to paint it black

The story:

I saw the Tim Burton movie Batman with a date, and I was totally impressed by the scene of Jack Nicholson as the Joker and his thug friends trashing the Gotham Museum. It was great! There was even a reference to the painter Francis Bacon. I was raving like this while driving back from the film with my date when it occurred to me that "Paint It Black" would have been the perfect song to put in this scene. My date, exasperated, asked why, and that's when I sang out the misheard lyric. He corrected me and then I broke up with him.

We were not on the same wavelength at all.
