The story:

I had always known that couldn't be the lyric, but
no matter how often I listened, it was all I could
hear. The "g" noise in "again" is absolutely sung
as a "c" noise. A very unusual way to sing that
lyric, and the only other thing I could think of was
he was saying "arcane", but even that made no sense.
Only just discovered now that it was "never feel the
sun again on his face", because there is a
significant pause between "sun" and "again".
