I don't understand the point of fingers.

The story:

It's not that I misheard it from the beginning, but that a friend once told me how he'd mistakenly heard the line in this way. For some reason after that all I could ever hear was the incorrect version my friend had shared with me and it drove me crazy. For the life of me I couldn't hear the correct lyrics until ages later I looked up the song on the internet.
