10 minutes ago, 34 years after this song was a hit, I was watching
a "Midnight Special" DVD with a live performance of this song.
When they sang the crucial word, complete with signature organ
trill, I realized they were saying Woman, not Water, as I had thought
all these years. This is a song that has stuck in my head too - I
sing it to myself a lot. I always picture a drowning man.
