Girl, I know that we broke up
But that doesn't mean you should give the corn soda

    Artist: 'N Sync
Real Lyric: Girl, I know that we broke upBut that doesn't mean you should give the cold shoulder

    The story:

I was 9 years old when the album came out, and though I was obsessed, there was a huge chunk of the lyrics that I just couldn't understand (usually either because of poor pronunciation or fast tempo - this particular one was pronounced terribly, slurred, even). The internet was just starting to become more mainstream and common, so I wasn't aware yet that you could look up lyrics online. At the time I thought "give the corn soda" was definitely a weird thing to say, and somehow I interpreted it as... making popcorn? Because soda is fizzy/pops, and... corn? Yeah, I don't know. I had no idea what that had to do with them breaking up. I thought maybe it was a metaphor of some kind. I wasn't aware of the term "cold shoulder" at that age, so I heard something else, I guess.

I did actually manage to convince my best friend at the time that those were the lyrics, I was sure of it. He was also obsessed with the album, and one day when we were listening to it that lyric went by and he noticed confidently I sang along to it, and he told me he wasn't sure what the words there were, so he asked me. For some reason, god knows why, he accepted my explanation.

It wasn't until probably around six or seven years later that I listened to the album for the first time in several years, and when I got to that lyric, it suddenly hit me what it actually was. I hadn't thought about it in a long time, so I never figured it out in between then. I did a literal facepalm and shook my head in disbelief at my nine-year-old self.
