The story:

I've been a fan since they emerged in the mid 80's. I suppose I saw the Religious imagery in the video and imagined that Neil tennant was implying he had been tortured with a pitch fork or something!
It wasn't until I bought the reissued version of the album in 2001, which had the lyrics printed in it, that I realised I had heard them wrong all that time.
