Chameleon without a face

The story:

I always sang it this way and never thought anything
was wrong with it. That was until I was listening to
the song with some of my friends and said "I would
like to see one of those". They all couldn't stop
laughing at me. Since then they have been giving me
drawings of faceless chameleons for my birthday
every year since. I think the lyrics works either
way.
