The story:

This was a FAMILY mistake. My mother was addicted (like all young mothers in the eighties) to lite rock. My brother and I thought for years that Billy sang "...and our hearts stampede as one," so it only made sense that he MUST be saying "Caribou Queen," as another listener thought.

One day, bro and I are sitting in the car waiting for Mom, listening, singing along, and wonder aloud why Billy's song is about caribou, of all things. Mom climbs in the driver's seat after a little while and says, "what are you guys saying?" Just as she says this, the D.J. comes on air saying, "that was Billy Ocean's 'Caribbean Queen'."........ We felt like our hearts had been mutilated by a stampede of caribou....The song has never held the joy it once did....sigh.
