Well, it hasn't been years - this song came to my attention when it was used in the recent advertisements for the Hatfields and McCoys miniseries. I was singing along with my husband's mp3 player in the car, which was playing through the stereo - he thought it was hilarious.
I knew I couldn't be right because it didn't really fit, but I had no idea what the real words were!
