The song always made me hungry when I heard it because I started thinking of that scene in charlie and the chocolate factory where the kids are all in the big room with all the candy flowers and grass....I just kept thinking of a candy buttercup. It finally occured to me that it's really not possible to build a buttercup and checked the lyrics.
