When I was a kid I heard other people singing the song and I also hear it on TV, and it sounded to me like "ba ba ba, ba bop er am..you got me rockin and a rollin rockin and a reelin bop er am" I thought bop-er-am was just some made up word that sounded cool. During me teens I had forgotten all about that song, only to rediscover it during my 1st year of college (2003, to be precise). I had bought a Beach Boys CD and was just listening to it all the way through, and some song I'd never heard of called "Barbara Ann" came on. The second I heard "Ba Ba ba ba-barbara ann" I thought to myself, "This is that "bop er am" song, but they're actually singing "barbara ann'. I'm a dumbass."
