The story:

I was riding in the car with my dad, happily singing along, and suddenly he goes, "That's not what it says."
I'd only ever heard the song twice at that point, and it would get stuck in my head, but I didn't know all of it. I made up lyrics that fit in the spot, decided they sounded right, and kept them that way.
