The story:

My friend and I were trying to learn the song for our acoustic duo to play at shows and all we had was his old Hall & Oates cassette to listen to. We listened to that line over and over again trying to figure out what Hall was saying. "It really sounds like meatballs," I recall saying. We knew that couldn't be right, but we usually sing it that way at shows anyway. I actually only figured out exactly what the lyrics are just now when I looked them up to submit them.
