The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
I listened to this song first in a country where
English was not the first (or second, or third)
language. The DJ always mumbled the title,
but I thought my listening skill was more
better than his language ability. Shortly after,
I moved to the US, where the song was in a
top 40. Enjoying singing, I sang this song
outloud in a car with friends, but they looked
at me and at each other quizzically. I thought
it was my voice, but turned out it was the
lyrics. I insisted on my version until they
showed me the album in Sam Goody's. And
then I saw the pictures of deBarge and went
blind. Later on I heard Janet Jackson eloped
with one of deBarge brothers, and I went deaf.
