My roommate in the Army back in 1986, Daniel P. Dennis, was singing to this song one day, and he sang them as "And Goliath, he crashed to the ground." I corrected him, but, since he was from Michigan and I was from Ohio, he didn't believe me. He even laughed at me for being "so wrong." He probably still believes that he was right.

I thought the same thing for about twenty years. Goliath, he crashed to the ground. But I recently looked the lyrics up. The actual words, 'The calliope crashed to the ground,' are also pretty interesting.
