It happened about 5 minutes ago, I was listening to
it and realized that I'd always liked the song, knew
Bowie wrote it and figured the lyrics might be cool,
besides the only two lines I "knew."
Yeah, I knew ONE of those two lines, the title.
I can remember being a teenager and singing along
with the chorus, and my friends going "Ohhhh, that's
what they're singing." There are people out there
who believe that all the young dudes carry their
'ludes. Boogaloo dudes carry their 'ludes.

I've always thought it was 'ludes' as well, in reference to Quaaludes drug, often used in 60's & 70's. (David Bowie's 'Time' includes the line, "in Quaaludes and red wine")
